About the artwork
The west coast evening light simplified the volcanic shapes of Paritutu and its islands and inspired the series of Back Beach prints made by Michael and his father in 1974. This is the second Edition screenprint of BackBeach. The First edition of Back Beach, that Michael Smither did solely on his own is completely sold out. This second edition is different again in colours and Michael having, as usual, handmixed all the paints for these screenprints. These are the last remaining screenprints of Back Beach A, that Michael Smither and Don Tee, Artrite screen printing have screenprinted. Each has differences in the screenprint.
