About the artwork
First Solo screenprints by M.D. Smither, 1990.
In the artists own words;
"The screenprinter, Bill Smither, died in 1985. It was 10years before I considered making prints again. Rocks in Sand Pools were made in King St. Studios, New Plymouth, and are inspired by the bands of different colours reflected in separate pools made by the flow of the receding tide around the rocks.
They represent a son's proof to his father that he had learnt the basics of his craft. Note: Work from this resurgent period is distinguished by the use of traditional numbering and signing being done in pencil on the prints surface. This enables the mount to be cut to the edge of the print to mask clumsy edges and future foxing of the paper.
